  1. Sincere thanks for keeping stories and memories of Appalachian life alive, Tipper! They take me back to some of the very happiest days of my life! Look forward to possibly seeing a story of “one room schoolhouse” experiences one day. They had such great names like “Old Glory”, “Zula”, “Dry Hollow”, and Mt. Zion. So often there was a small Churchhouse of like name nearby.

  2. Hi! Thank you soooo much for the link on the apples. I did do a run of these and of course you were right……they are really good! The Blind Pig & The Acorn really makes my day-every day. It takes me back to the days I spent with my Granny (who passed at age 97) & all the wonderful specialties in life that meant so much then and even more so now. Your girls & their musical talent is rare nowadays. i work in a high school & we all need to pray for our children coming up in this world. Thanks for taking your time for others. May God richly bless each and everyone of you! He with no doubt has and will continue.

  3. I’m a relatively new subscriber and have to agree with the other posters that your blog just makes me feel good! Reading your blog, listening to the Pressley girls, reminds me that this world is actually a pretty nice place! Thank you for sharing your blessings!

  14. We thank God every day for our parents and our families and we thank Him for our life in East Tennessee and Appalachia. For our church. And a great blessing: To know Blind Pig and the Acorn and the folks who love it as we love it. With all in our life, we are blessed.

  16. Now why in the world would I want another Pressley Girls cd. I already have two. I picked them up at the post office yesterday. They would have been here sooner but the Postal Service thought they needed to to go to “Somewhere”, Egypt first. But they were worth waiting for, let me tell you. Carrie Pretzel (must be their manager) even got the Pressley Girls to autograph them for me.
Tipper, you and the Mister have been blessed and I have been blessed! A bunch of us have been blessed I think! The whole world could be blessed too if they would just open their eyes!

  17. Your Blind Pig blog is something I look forward to reading every morning. It always reminds me of my Daddy’s family. They were just country folks from eastern NC (Smithfield) but their habits, traditions, terminology/language and overall culture just were not that different from the Appalachian culture you share with us all. Reading Blind Pig makes me feel like I’m sitting at my grandmother’s table with all the family, and I’m right at home again!

  18. Makes my day everyday, makes. Me homesick for the foothills of NC.Thank You for sharing your life and Your Families GOD given talents

  21. I have already got my CD! Just in case I wear it out or it ends up stolen, it wouldn’t hurt to have a spare on hand.

  22. I would love a CD by the girls. Not living in the area I have only be lucky enough to catch them 3 or 4 times at events.

  23. I would love to have the CD! Their harmonies, choice of songs, and angelic voices are alway an inspiration to me.
The talent in your family is phenomenal, and I am so glad you keep this blog going.

  24. Tipper–Gracious giving is surely a byword for you, and I suspect the same holds true for many of your readers. In looking at the photos accompanying today’s blog, all sorts of warm thoughts are evoked, but the most immediate is just how much I enjoyed a jar of the apples from the run pictured here (Tipper generously donated them, along with other items, to the annual Southeastern Outdoor Press Association auction, and I was fortunate enough to be the winning bidder on the silent auction lot in which they were included).

  25. exciting and thankful time of the year – along with good music, the best time of the year – would love to have the girls cd!

  26. I don’t know if it is me slowing down and paying more attention but it seems the leaves are more beautiful and lasting longer this year.
This warm weather makes for good sittin on the deck and taking in all of the smells of fall.
Hope all the Blind Pig readers are enjoying this beauty also.

  27. Tipper,
I love your posts, the videos of Pap, Paul and the Girls. I am from west central oHIo and have traveled the world but find myself akin to the Appalachian culture. I still have my GranPa’s old fiddle and my Uncle’s Gibson guitar.
Keep up the great job and thank you for all the great memories of a time gone bye!!
    Bill

  28. I am so excited ya’ll are sharing your God given gifts with the world in the form of the new cd. I am blessed to have several other of your cds and would love to add this one to my collection. Be assured, if I am not chosen I will be contacting you for my own copy.
Your family is such a blessing to so many, thank you 🙂
    Many blessings on your day!

  29. I have belatedly figured out in the last few years that every single thing we can be grateful for enriches our lives be they big or small. I am thankful for BP&A. We hear too much yammering these days about inconsequential stuff but you are a relief, like the good news from a far country the Bible speaks about.

  30. I would love nothing more than winning this ne of the girls’ first CD. I have been a reader for many years and followed the successes of the girls and your marvelous mountain information. Yahoo!

  31. But Tipper, the picture on that CD is grown up young women! Where did Chitter and Chatter go? You know, the little rug rats you’ve been showing us pictures of for years. How can that be that they are grown women now? I just can’t figure it out. One minute they’re throwing rocks in the creek now they have their own CD! Time sure moves on, how long have you been doing the Blind Pig? Time sure does funny things, that’s all I can say!
