When we went on a hike over the weekend we found two hearts. One was in a leaf. You can see it in the photo above. Chatter spotted it while we were sitting down for a rest and a snack.

The other was a heart shaped rock. The Deer Hunter found it and gave it to Chatter since she’d found the first one in the leaf. It seems only fitting that we found the two hearts, after all this is the month for love right? Actually once I think about it I believe we found six hearts. The two I’ve showed you, and our four hearts that were filled with the goodness of spending the day with those you love most in the great outdoors.

Since this is the month for sweethearts, be on the lookout for a few posts related to love.

  3. Tipper,
I don’t know anything much about different families but all my grandchildren are girls. Perhaps that’s why I’m partial to Chitter and Chatter. I raised two girls and they had 6 girls, and some of them are married and have girls too. I recon Daddy and Mama used up all the boy-genes, cause there was 6 boys in our Family.

  4. From very little on, I tried to implant into my children the concept that “time” is our most valuable asset. It is limited, it is beyond our control and we never know when it will end. So, I always said to them, “The most valuable thing you can give your children or anyone is your “time”. Spend your time carefully. Spend it generously with your most valued family and friends. However, also spend it with people who you know desperately need it. Just like “touch” there are many who desperately need some ones time. Don’t take it for granted, it may not be here tomorrow.

  5. What a terrific post! You guys do the most terrific stuff. Family outings are to be treasured and remembered always. I am sure everyone will.

  6. Tipper,

  7. There’s nothing any more relaxing than climbing and exploring the hills around us. As a child, I loved to make a picnic and go looking for the little red flowers that are native to Appalachia and bloom in the hills around the beginning of May. A quart jar of water and a potted meat sandwich tasted so much better from the top of a cliff or big flat rock.

  8. Since my family is all gone my dog is my hiking buddy. It really is mostly a walk but it is great to have the sun shining on my face and breathing in the great mountain air. No wonder doctors recommend walking every day to most patients.
It not only helps the body but clears the mind as well.

  9. I’ll bet no one had a cell phone out checking messages during this time.

Family hikes are what will be remembered long after other things. When the daughter was 5 or 6 we would make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pack them in a bag and go for a picnic walk. For her little legs I am sure we walked less than a mile and sat in a special place under pine trees and ate our picnic. She still remembers these walks.

This was low country SC and the view had no spectacular scenery. It was just time to be together.

  10. I believe you all are noticing kinds of folks, seeing the big and the little and the in-between. That is a good life skill.

You remind me of when our grandson was here Christmas. We went down on Mossy Creek and he found a smooth, round cookie-sized and shaped rock white on one side and gray on the other. He is happy to find a special rock wherever he goes. He only gets to keep one so it is like the search for the perfect Christmas tree. We made a good memory.

  11. I’m so glad you guys had a hike up the mountain, it really puts the world in perspective for you guys…it always has!
