One of Pap’s latest songs, Looking Out Toward Heaven, has been on a constant loop inside my head since I first heard it a few months ago. I would swear it’s my favorite from the long list of songs he’s written, but I know I say that about a lot of Pap’s songs.

Looking Out Toward Heaven written by Jerry Wilson

Looking out toward heaven
Nothing can compare
To creation’s glory
And amazing power

Stars and every planet
Hang way out in space
Earth and every beauty
In a perfect plane

Universe of wonder and glory
Endless space where Angels feet have trod
Oh Heaven’s brightest Glory
Christ the lamb of God

Such design and order
Only can be found
God in his great glory
And the highest power

Stars and every planet
Hang way out in space
Earth and every beauty
In a perfect plane

Universe of wonder and glory
Endless space where Angel’s feet now trod
Oh Heaven’s brightest Glory
Christ the Lamb of God

————————

We were still getting the hang of the song on the day we videoed it so there’s a few mistakes, but I hope you enjoyed it anyway.

It’s been a tough week for folks in my neck of the woods. Three fathers were lost to our community. Each father left behind young children along with many loved ones and friends. Throw in a fatal car wreck just down the road and loved ones being rushed to the hospital and it’s been a humdinger of a week.

The perfection of the universe seems like a good thing to think about this week.

  1. This wonderful poem from Pap, Jerry Wilson, and the song so beautifully sung by Pap and Paul was posted February 8. I was in the hospital then, and didn’t access until today (back at home) Feb. 8. I want to thank Pap for writing such grateful and significant words; so beautiful. And for the music and the song! How blessed I am from reading/listening. Thank all of you who participated. And deepest sympathy to the families affected by the deaths and the whole community of people who share in the mourning and suffering. “Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Ephesians 6:3 (KJV)

  6. Sorry to hear of the loss in your community. Just recently a family in our church lost their teenage daughter to a drunk driver and within weeks their son was riding an atv on a back road when a deer ran out of the church parking lot in front of him and he was killed when he was thrown off.

  13. Tipper,
Pap and Paul…what a beautiful song. I enjoyed it so much!
Evidently Pap has enjoyed the night time stillness on the mountain with the peace and hopeful pleasure, given to us by our creator. Pap’s words sung with music describe the wonder, power and beauty of God’s love.
    Thanks Tipper, and gang
PS…What a beautiful peaceful picture Tipper!
PS…This has been a week of tragedies in our area also. Whispers of peace and hope are sent to all the families!

  14. Thank you Tipper, ‘Paps’, and Steve- Your song has blessed our hearts today! Beautiful harmony-we could listen all day. God bless. Bob and Inez

  15. Tipper,
When Pap writes a song, it’s
    straight from the heart, that’s
what makes it so good. Sometimes
I like the slow-down type songs,
it soaks in better. Lovely job by
    all the Blind Pig Gang…Ken

  16. I read the lyrics before listening to the tune. I was thinking how in the world could those words be put to song. But, goodness, that was beautiful.

  17. “Angels of Mercy” is probably my favorite of all Pap’s songs I’ve heard. It too would seem appropriate in times like these. It came right up after “Looking Out Toward Heaven” finished playing.

  18. Forget the mistakes, these kitchen strummers are the real thing. I love their heartfelt authenticity and voices that reach to the sky. Let the music soften the sharp edge of pain from the tragic loss of friends and neighbors. When I find myself at death’s door, I want a Pap and Paul song to carry me through to eternity.

  19. Pap’s singing and those who help, make listening always worthwhile. I would like to offer my sympathies to those who have lost loved ones in your area. It is so difficult to love someone so precious to a complete family. God bless those families.

  20. There are just times when concentrating on God’s greater plan and all the beauty surrounding us is all that helps us to cope. Thanks for Pap’s song and all that it expresses about what heaven is. Prayers for the families who lost so much.

  21. Good morning, Tipper. Thank you so much for this. It so expresses the calm and beauty of this Sunday morning in Macon County. Just got back from the Chapel in the Woods where a congregation of one (and all the myriad beings of Nature) enjoyed morning service. Blessings on you and all yours.
PS. Web site to be developed, but…

  22. With the turmoil the world is in right now this song is a blessing. There are so many lovely songs to listen to that we have forgotten.
Maybe that is why the world is in the shape it is in.
I remember the days, especially on Sunday, we would sit around and sing
gospel songs. I am sure it influenced our lives.
The music kids listen to today like rap can’t be helpful in building character.

  23. dearest Tipper,
I do believe this could become one of my favorite tunes as well —– it stirs you to calmness and trust

  24. Very pretty. I was struck by how both melody and words convey a sense of calming perspective – clearly needed amidst the turmoil that you mentioned.
