My life in appalachia - its a long way to the top

Love of the Mountains written by Allen Mills

Two trees on the hillside of a mountain
Always looking up toward the sky
Remind me of my Papa and my Moma
Who lived there 80 years before they died

Bright moon shining in the valley

Now the bright moon is shining in the valley
That old wagon leans against a stack of hay
Two graves on a hillside by a cabin
My Mom and Dad are resting there today

Water powered gristmill

The sizzle of the green wood on a fireplace
The falling snow around the redbud tree
The branches of the laurels by the creekside
And the rippling waters of a gentle stream

Now the bright moon is shining in the valley
That old wagon leans against a stack of hay
Two graves on a hillside by a cabin
My Mom and Dad are resting there today

A_sight_like_pap

Papa used to talk about the young days
When he and Moma first were settled there
He spoke about the love of the mountains
That he and Moma shared together there

Now the bright moon is shining in the valley
That old wagon leans against a stack of hay
Two graves on a hillside by a cabin
My Mom and Dad are resting there today

  1. WOW! The Pressley Girls never cease to amaze me by their talent. Really like this song and as usual, they are magnificent!

  2. I wondered where you were yesterday. Blessed to hear everyone’s fine.
The storms in the Midwest are breaking many hearts and are concerning many as these same storms surge toward them.
Praying God’s loving mercy on us all, In Christ Jesus name. AMEN!!!
    God bless.

  3. Such talent! I really missed you yesterday; I thought I had a glitch in my email. I searched read, deleted, etc. I’m glad the mystery has been solved. We did have some rather bad storms – no TV for sure. I liked the song and the presentation.

  4. We have no service at our cabin either. We were told we would have to cut down 90′ trees to get it. So it is not that important to me.

  5. Welcome back, Tipper, we missed you. Ken even emailed me to say “is something wrong at Tippers?”
These computer/internet thing are wonderful….when they work and maddening when they don’t!
That was a great song. The girls outdid themselves this time. That song seemed to be written for their voices. They do the harmony to perfection and their voices are getting stronger and surer.

  6. Them girls are better ever time I see em. I like that camera angle. What do you call it? A ceiling fan shot? While you’re up there you might as well check em for dandruff!

  7. I had never heard that song, which the girls did a fine job on. Chatter’s obviously been spending time making fine friends with her guitar. That little smile when they were done said “I got all those licks in just right, didn’t I?”
Paul and Guitar Man better watch out.
Something that was impressive and depressive at the same time: watching Chitter turn the page around for Chatter to read from several feet away. Those girls can use those pretty chinquapin eyes for something other than melting fellers’ hearts.

  8. Very good job Girls,, I’ve not heard this one before. Concerning your internet service. We have broadband, it has an antenna outside on a 50ft tower, still the trees are taller that the tower,, in the beginning we had a signal that transmitted and received in the gigahertz, it wouldn’t go through the trees very well, “slow as dial up”, finally the provider got tired of our complaining, he came out and put a pie pan shape antenna on the tower and changed the signal to a 900 megahertz signal and wa-la she’s been clucking right along ever since rain, sleet, snow,, has not stop the signal yet.. and goes through the trees much better…
